Arabic Mau - breed history

Arabian, or Arabian, Mau are called domestic cats of the desert. Their ancestors were wild cats, which over time were domesticated by the Bedouins of the Arabian Peninsula, accompanied the nomads in the desert. Gradually they mixed with other types of cats, which travelers and merchants brought from other parts of the world. Only a few years ago they were officially registered as a separate breed.

The Arabian Mau is a large-sized cat with well-developed muscles. The legs are long, the legs are oval. The tail is flexible, tapering to the tip, medium length. The head seems round when viewed from the front of the cat. This impression is not true, since its width is less than the length. The chin is quite pronounced and not massive. The cat's profile is as if bent.

The ears are large, wide. Their shape is a regular triangle, which is slightly rounded at the end. The eyes are oval. Eye color matches color. The coat adheres tightly to the cat's body, it looks silky, and the undercoat is absent. Color can be of different options. Three varieties of the color of this breed are known - pure white (which is rare in the wild), black and white and brown with black stripes. Since these cats have inherited the good genes of their wild ancestors, they have excellent health and high life expectancy. The nature of cats is friendly and freedom-loving. For recreation, they prefer places on the hills. Unassuming for food. Get along well with other animals.
