New museums in Dubai

At least five new museums will open in the historic districts of Dubai before the end of this year as part of the municipality's program to turn old buildings built before 1974 into culturally attractive sites.

Old city buildings are already divided into several categories - from "A" to "D". Al-Fahidi Fort, Ahmadiya School and Sheikh Saeed House were awarded the highest. In accordance with their historical value, they will be under the special supervision of the city authorities. They can not be demolished and rebuilt. Those buildings that just can be rebuilt — mainly from the inside — fell into category “B”. Facades should not be touched.

In total, there are 192 such buildings in the Shindag area - each of them can become a museum or a souvenir shop. For example, Ahmed Obeid Al Mansouri, the owner and founder of the Crossroads of Civilizations museum, opened in early 2014, has already asked for two new buildings in the historical zone to house additional museum displays - old manuscripts and weapons. Expert numismatist Abdullah Muhammad Al Muteiri is about to open a numismatic museum where he will display Islamic coins. In addition, the Dubai National Costume Museum, as well as the Museum of Traditional Games and Jewelry, will soon open their doors.
