It often happens that many people who move to the UAE from Russia and the CIS countries - both adults and children - have an excess of free time and are tormented by the question: “What to do?”. For those who have ever played hockey or just want to learn, there is a great opportunity in the Emirates. Established in 2011, Ice Hockey Academy Dubai invites everyone to learn how to play hockey.
Indeed, even people whose interest in hockey ends with watching the Olympic Games, world championships or any international competitions, understand that a seriously organized structure is necessary for professional training.
In other words, for teaching real hockey, a children's sports school is needed, which should educate a new generation of players and add “new blood” to existing clubs.
Such hockey clubs today exist in AlAin, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. But, for example, the Dubai SandStorm hockey school is a volunteer project where the parents are the trainers. Therefore, it was in Dubai - the city where the number of residents and tourists is many times greater than in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain - the Dubai Ice Hockey Academy project was opened.
How it all began
It all started with simple individual training or training at home in the distant 2011. Since hockey is a popular international game with millions of fans around the world, there were many people in Dubai who could play. After some time, the pupils began to show high results in team competitions, which, according to a chain reaction, increased the demand for training.
Soon, the Dubai Ice Hockey Academy was created, as well as the White Bears hockey club. At the initial stage, the Academy consisted of 8 Russian guys (running ahead: now they are already playing 40 in three different leagues), who used to play hockey and enjoyed playing in the hockey world of Dubai.
Now the club, mainly consisting of Russian-speaking guys - White Bears - already plays in three leagues of the Emirates. This major league is the EHL, Dubai Mighty Camels League and Dubai Night Hockey League (DNHL). The latter - the Dubai Ice Hockey Academy project - was created specifically for those who are just taking their first steps in hockey, while a team of local residents of the Emirates takes part in the games.
Many argue that hockey in this league is the most spectacular and unpredictable game. After all, people do not play for money, like professionals, but only learn, but the way they fight is worthy of all praise!
