Ramadan 2018: a memo for those who do not hold fast

The Khaleej Times has published tips for UAE residents who do not fast during Ramadan.

The holy month of Ramadan begins on May 17. Even if you do not fast, but live in the UAE or are in the country with a tourist visit, you MUST take into account a number of restrictions.

  • You can not eat and drink during the daytime fasting in public places. Respect those who fast.
  • You can hold meetings, but do not have to schedule meetings at dinner, although restaurants will work. It is recommended to hold meetings in the morning or a couple of hours before iftar.
  • Iftar is a conversation. If your Muslim friend invited you to iftar, you should come and should not refuse food because you did not fast.
  • Be lenient and courteous. Your fasting colleagues have less energy than you. Even if they ate early in the morning, by midday the energy supply would run out. And this year, the post lasts an average of 13 hours!
  • Never tell Muslims that you will be fasting to lose weight. Fasting in Ramadan is not a diet! By the way, many fasting people just gain weight during Ramadan because of too abundant iftar.

We wish you all a generous Ramadan!
