In 2017, twice as many Russian tourists had a rest in Abu Dhabi than a year earlier.

According to statistics from the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), in 2017, the emirate was visited by more than 40 thousand tourists from Russia, which is two times higher than in 2016. For the whole year, Russians spent 198,208 nights in the emirate, which also record-breaking exceeds 2016 figures by 84% (107,569). In December, the tourist flow from Russia increased by 154% from 2,396 to 6,096 people compared to the same period in 2016. The growth of overnight stays was recorded with approximately the same result in 130%: in December 2017 their number was 25,778 (11,230 nights in December 2016).
Positive results on the tourist flow were also recorded in other countries: so in 2017, twice as many tourists from Latvia (2,786 in 2017 and 1,184 in 2016) and Estonia (2,340 in 2017 and 1,137 in 2016); tourist flow from Georgia increased by 62% (2 199 in 2017 and 1 360 in 2016) and by 28% from Uzbekistan (5 601 in 2017 and 4 392 in 2016). The flow of tourists from Ukraine remains positive (+ 11% in 2017 to 2016), as before, occupy the second place among the CIS markets in the number of tourists having a rest in Abu Dhabi (12 327 in 2017 and 11 076 in 2016).
Eduard Grigoryev, director of the DCT Abu Dhabi office in Russia and the CIS, comments on the positive results of 2017: “Only in the last year the UAE has simplified or canceled visa procedures for citizens of China, Russia and Ukraine. This decision supported the trend towards an increase in the number tourists from Russia and the key markets of the former Soviet Union and allowed us to end 2017 with more than 100,000 tourists from all our markets, where Russia is the undisputed leader.In 2017, about 5 M tourists from all over the world visited Abu Dhabi. Russia and the CIS countries are in the Top 15 by the number of tourists in Abu Dhabi, but most importantly, our compatriots are one of those who spend the most time in the country with an average of about 5 nights, which puts us on the top of the charts for the length of stay in the country, hoteliers love us for that. "
