Dubai Metro will be partially closed for a year and a half

The Dubai Metro Red Line will be partially suspended until mid-2019.

The Dubai metro red line between JLT and Ibn Batuta stations will be closed for the duration of construction work under the Route 2020 project, according to the Road and Transport Administration (RTA).

The work of the metro in this section will be suspended from January 5, 2018 until mid-2019.

Late last year, construction work began on the 15-kilometer stretch of the new route, expanding the Red Line and connecting the Nakheel Harbor and Towers stations with Expo 2020.

Currently, work is underway along a 15-kilometer route passing through several densely populated areas. Construction will require the complete closure of the station, as well as a multi-storey car park.

Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Yunus, Director General of the RTA Railway Department, said that passengers will be able to use the services of a free express bus service in a closed section between JLT and Ibn Battuta stations during metro hours.

Closing means that passengers traveling to UAE Exchange must leave at JLT stations, take the bus to Ibn Battuta Station. The same goes for the direction of Rashidiya Station.

Yunus advised passengers to plan their trips and lay an extra 20 minutes to avoid delays.
