Russian tourist appeared before the UAE court for beating a hotel employee

In the court of the emirate of Sharjah, the case of a Russian who committed an attack on a hotel employee while intoxicated is heard.

A tourist from Russia, intoxicated, attacked a hotel employee of Filipino descent, at the first hearing in a court of the emirate of Sharjah (UAE) apologized to the victim.

According to the victim, the incident occurred on November 15, 2017 at a hotel in the Al Majaz area. The clerk turned to the Russian, after which he suddenly hit him twice in the face. The accused was arrested and taken to Buhaira Police Station. The attacker was so drunk that he was only able to be questioned one day after his arrest.

The Russian was charged with drinking alcohol without a license (for non-Muslims) from the relevant authorities in the UAE and for assaulting a person.

The accused admitted the fact of drinking alcohol. He apologized to the court and the employee for his behavior.

He said: "I am a tourist, and I came to the UAE for the first time. I did not know that drinking alcohol is prohibited in the UAE."

He added that the travel company had not warned him of the ban. According to the accused, he also does not remember what he was doing while intoxicated.

The victim accepted the apology of the man and forgave him. He told the judge that he would not demand compensation. However, he asked for medical expenses because he had to undergo treatment for 20 days. The Russian told the court that he was ready to pay all the expenses incurred by the victim.

The judge ordered the defendant to be released on bail and his passport issued until a court decision was made on December 20.
