Gulf Fishing

It was in the recent past

We were invited for fishing by friends who had long been familiar with Valery Shpilkin, a representative of East Wing. After conferring, we decided together - let's go!

At 6 a.m., we arrived at the marina at the port of Dubai International Marine Club. We met with the captain, crew and ... a yacht. It was a 31-foot Word Around yacht with one cabin. Inside, everything was very beautiful and comfortable: a large sleeping cabin, a cabin with a video and a bar, a kitchen, a shower, a toilet. Outside: two decks for fishing and sunbathing, as well as a spacious high captain’s bridge. A real ship! I immediately fell in love with yachts, the sea and, of course, I immediately began to dream about sea voyages and that it would be nice to change my car to this beautiful sea house and transport at the same time.

We went to sea at low speed, passing a whole forest of masts. The marina was like a city of a wide variety of yachts and boats. A delightful sight! Indeed, each ship is like a creation of an artist. I never thought it was so impressive.

The first unusual sensation was that the floor under my feet constantly moved slightly up and down. Therefore, we did not take risks and immediately took a drug that prevents the symptoms of motion sickness. The next thing that struck me was confidence in the reliability of this type of transport. Unlike a car, where there is a lot of plastic and tin, the yacht seemed a monolithic design, where each part and item of equipment was like a single whole. Polished blocks, door hinges, various handles of an unknown destination glistened in the sun, words but jewelry. The white surface of the upper deck, the blue sky and the blue-green sea simply circled his head. After 20 minutes we were already in the open sea ...

The enchanting view opens when you are standing on the captain’s bridge. From horizon to horizon, as if in a movie, a huge blue sea extends. Moreover, it is not just blue, it has hundreds of colors and shades! Looking at this beauty that opens my eyes, I mentally thanked my wife, who, unlike me, did not forget the camera at home. But the most delightful was the sense of speed with which we cut the blue of the sea waters. Everyone gathered on the deck and admired this hitherto unseen spectacle.

Leaving their wives and children to enjoy the seascape from the upper deck, a friend and I went down to the wardroom, past one of the crew members preparing fishing gear. The captain of the yacht welcomed us to the wardroom and treated us with magnificent cognac. To the question “Will alcohol harm sea travel?”, I received the answer that “it will not hurt a little, but only cheer up the upcoming fishing, it’s better not to abuse alcohol in the sea”. Having rested in the coolness of the wardroom and received instructions on sea fishing, we went up to the deck and were amazed at what we saw. Our yacht passed by a huge, but huge, huge tanker. The sight of this dark giant, its mighty rusty anchor, which, probably, was the size of our yacht, made us feel like midgets in the country of gullivers. Amazed, we were silent for a while, as if not daring to violate the "peace" of this monster, but after about half an hour we lost sight of it.

How far have we climbed? I did not know the answer, but I was not particularly worried about this, because I was sure of the experience of the captain and his page. And so, the yacht slowed down, and then completely froze. We anchored. There were practically no waves in the sea - almost calm. We were given prepared fishing tackle, bait, and once again instructed in how to fish, which everyone agreed to catch - both wives and children! Silence descended on the yacht, and lasted about five minutes. ... And suddenly! The cry of the daughter of our friends broke the general silence: "Ahhh! ... I'm pulling! What should I do ?!"

Her father hastened to help, and a minute later the first fish sparkled in the sunshine, like a supermodel in the light of spotlights on the catwalk. There was no end to the delight of children and adults! Five minutes later we caught the second, third fish and away we go! After half an hour, we already had as much sherry and hamur as I had not caught perches and rudd in my fishing trip in my entire life. Excitement took over everyone. Wives with such passion caught fish that they did not lag behind their men. Delight! Such was the general condition, so rarely manifested in everyday life.

We caught about five hours. And then everyone, somehow at the same time, got tired. Nevertheless, emotional stress and an extraordinary surge of feelings that were not characteristic of the land-urban everyday life affected.

The crew invited us to the wardroom table. And there I first tasted the most delicious fish in my life! I did not remember all the details of that simple fishing recipe, I only remember that the fish was rolled in corn grits and fried whole in vegetable oil, but, take my word for it, it was a fish tastier which I had never eaten before!

We made table toasts, smiled at each other and chatted merrily. The children interrupted each other with delighted exclamations - who had the biggest fish, and who caught what. The wives proudly ate the fish that they first caught with their own hands, and I silently enjoyed what was happening - how, all the same, good! It’s just wonderful that friends pulled us fishing, it’s good that there is sea and sun, and it’s just wonderful that there are Arab Emirates, where summer is all year round ... We returned to the beach at sunset.

Tired and peaceful, we passed the lights of the night city and moored in the same place from where we went on this journey in the morning. About half an hour later we were driving home through the night streets in our ordinary cars, and each of us silently experienced the impressions of our first emirate fishing ...

Very little time has passed. I am sitting in an armchair flipping through an album of photographs of that journey. Here is a huge iron vessel in the sky. Here is the first fish. And here we are at the table in the wardroom ... I will definitely go fishing again! And if you have not been to such fishing, my advice is to try it. It is such events that adorn our lives!
