Monorail starts operating on man-made palm island in Dubai

The monorail, which runs along the entire trunk of the man-made island of The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, is officially open to the public.

The length of the region’s unique railway, with Gateway Towers Station at the base of the “trunk” and Atlantis Aquaventure Station at the peak of the “crown” as its terminal stations, is almost equal to the length of the island itself. The road can carry up to 2400 passengers per hour on four independent trains consisting of three wagons each. A maximum of nine road trains can serve up to 6,000 passengers per hour. Built by a consortium of leading international companies under the leadership of Marubeni Corporation, the Palma monorail is fully automated, and its trains will operate without the participation of a driver: only a duty operator will be assigned to each.

The latest technologies were used in the construction of the road, which made it possible to solve the problems faced by the project developers, including laying 1000 km of tracks almost by sea and high humidity, and new noise reduction technologies made the road almost silent. In the future, The Palm Jumeirah monorail will be connected with the Dubai Metro under construction and the transportation system of Al-Sufuh.
